Al Masa’a way finding and signs Project.
The expansion by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to Masa’a of the Holly Mosque, which witnessed the largest expansion in its history, in a distinguished project, aimed to facilitate the rituals “Munasik” of pilgrims and Umera performers, taking into account the legal and geographical considerations.
This new expansion came as an addition to the previous achievements. The total width of Masa’a has been doubled from the original 20 meters, to reach 40 meters. Taking advantage of the spaces adjacent to the Holly Mosque. On the other hand, the number of storeys has been increased to four, with a resultant total area of more than 87 thousand square meters instead of the original rough 29 thousand square meters in the past, with an increase of more than 43 thousand square meters. While the number of storeys and space that have been intended for Sai and services reached about 125 thousand square meters, with a resulting noticeable reduction of over crowdedness and hence, ensuring the safety of pilgrims and Umera performers.
Due to this great achievement, the visitors of the Holly Mosque now have three storeys and four lanes, which is directly linked to the original Saudi first expansion for Sai. while the newly opened Sai lanes stand higher than the Holly Mosque storeys ,which could be accessed via escalators and elevators, as well as three flyovers, and rites corridor from the Masa’a cellar to eastern yards across with an incline ensuring the comfort of pilgrims .
In addition, because the service of pilgrims is boundless, the project included the expansion of the areas of Safa and Marwa in a way that could commensurate with the expansion horizontally and vertically.
The installation of four new escalators to transport visitors outside the Masa’a, so that the pilgrims could leave easily after accomplishing their Nusk. In addition, the new expansion reserved lanes for people with Special Needs, in addition to providing gathering areas to gather at range of Safa and Marwa.
While construction of a new minaret with a soaring height of 95 meters to fit with the new expansion space for Masa’a.
The initial work of Fame company in the Holly Mosque was limited to manufacturing and supply of temporary orientation signs for visitors in the Masa’a ,which were of two types:
1 – The names of the Masa’a Brass gold-plated gates.
2 – Signs inside Masa’a with their oil colors.
3 – Signs indicating Zamzam drinking places.
Currently, work is underway on the construction of an integrated network of signs in all shapes and locations all over the entire Masa’a.
All the signs will have back light and with huge size to make it easy on Makkah visitors to read it or use it as a guide.
